First roll, first mow

We are rolling the greens for the first time today!
We are anticipating rain this week and wanted to firm them up before. We will begin making our first mowing on greens as well.
All the turf is still very dormant, check out the close up.
Some poa looks green on the right side of the photo.
High of 46 on Saturday, high of 50 on Sunday.
Next week looks awful so enjoy these next two days!

How close are we to opening

This weather.......
Looks like a few weeks yet, forecast not good.
Seven red still covered in snow.
Sunrise is pretty though!

It is very white out.  Two days ago, birds were chirping, there was a slight hint of spring in the air, and green shoots of grass could be seen emerging deep into the turf.

Now, it looks like.........
If the winter had not been so unruly, I would say that this am is one of the most beautiful days.  The sun angle makes the snow covered landscape a fantastic white.

One step forward, two steps back.
Cha cha now,

Under the ice

Last week we ventured out and took a peek under the nearly two inches of ice on the greens. We found, what we were hoping for and somewhat expected, some healthy turf ready for spring.
The ice and snow have insulated the turf, and I could get the soil thermometer about 3/4" into the soil. I don't know how far the frost permeates into the green, but in the rough, the soil was completely thawed, and pretty soft.
I wish I could be excited for the forecast. I expect the snow to melt, green turf on greens to shine, freezing temps at night, then the turf will the greens will "off color" back to brown.
Oh well, it will be green again soon.
The forecast looks like we won't be golfing in March this year.
But we will see,
