Really???? More rain?
Half inch more rain means cart path only. Course is open and the weekend forecast looks good. The straight ball is still the play.

Ahhh, the pleasures of spring.
Is it a winter wonderland at Briar? No, it is cottonwood season, and I can't do justice to my emotions for those trees. The rainfall from last week saturated the ground very well. So well, in fact, that the nearly half inch we received monday, is still standing water in places. This means that the short straight hitter is going to take the money from the long ball, keep it in the fairway tonight for mens league. We are doing are best to get to areas that are dry enough to mow, however that only seems to be about 20 percent of the rough. The forecast is for temps in the eighties, so any grass we mow today, will be long by Sunday. Just remember that there is a premium on accuracy right now, and keep any thoughts of additional rain away.....please.

9-Hole Ladies; Cat-Fight Friday
Cool weather, lots of rain, and gusts of wind; we have had it all this week. The weekend looks good for golf, ok, well maybe not Sunday. 44 percent chance of all day rain......4.5 out of 10, its less than a coin flip. Today and Saturday are looking good. Sign up sheets are up for the Memorial Day Event and the Two-man Match Play, see the proshop for details. This has been a productive week for us, we have been able to catch up on a few things and are happy with the overall condition of the course. We are leaving the path today, but please keep the carts 90 degrees in the fairways only.

Caddyshack
Looks like we need to put our best man on the job of "killing all the goffers." No, it's not the gophers, it was a plugged drainage line though. We are starting to catch up just in time for more rain. The weekend forecast looks promising! Don't forget to take advantage of our "family nine" it is a great way to spend some quality time with loved ones. See the pro for details.

Friday Showers
We recieved almost an inch of rain today, course is wet. Thankfully, the temperatures are on the cool side, any water with the warm temps we have had and the rough would be jungle-like. Our drainage project on eight red is nearly complete, and we watched as the new tile take water this morning.....yeay!!!!
The USGA was kind enough to send me a video about aerification, you may watch it by clicking here. It is not very long and simply explains some of the fine details about the process. Next week could be a wet one, and after this weekend looks like we are safe to plant our annuals, even though I have noticed many brave individuals getting a jump on planting......not me, I have been frosted too many times!

Warmest April on record
What a change from a year ago. It is hard to believe that it is only the first week of May, it feels more like the first of June, in more ways than one! It has been very difficult to get any of our project work done, the growing grass is demanding our attention. We have begun some small aerification today, and will complete it tomorrow. The holes that we punched on friday of last week are almost healed in and I would think that you will not notice any difference in ball roll by thursday. We are pleased with our rooting and the way that the drainage project on the white nine has helped those putting surfaces. Looks like the owl babies may have left the nest, and we had a visit from an osprey over the weekend.

Opening scramble conditions
Overnight and early morning showers produced almost three-quarters of an inch of rain. Some fairways have standing water while some are saturated. Cart path restrictions are a game time decision, that will be made just prior to the event. We are hopeful that a few hours will give the water time to infiltrate into the soil. Warm rains really make the rough happy, so keep it in the fairway.
