Winters like the one we just experienced in 2013-14, have lasting effects on the environment and structures. One phenomenon that takes place is the destruction from freeze thaw cycles. Just like a can of soda bursting in your freezer, water freezing creates pressure on our streets, pipes, patios, and a number of infrastructure.
Plants also experience stress from this cycle. Here is a photo of a tree that has been damaged. Crotches of trees is a common place to see the damage. While you are doing a tour of your property this spring, be sure to check on your trees.
